NASFAT LAUNCHES SILWIN, EMPOWERS WIDOWS AND VULNERABLE WOMEN
The pace setting global Islamic Society, Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT) has formally launched the Silver Lining for Women and Children Support Initiative (SILWIN), a humanitarian platform established to provide sustainable support, empowerment and protection for widows, vulnerable women and children across Nigeria.
The launch, held on June 30, 2026, at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, coincided with the commemoration of International Widows’ Day and attracted religious leaders, government representatives, development partners, humanitarian organizations, community stakeholders and members of the public.In her welcome address, the National Women Affairs Secretary of NASFAT, Alhaja Ganiat Omowunmi Babalola, described SILWIN as the Society’s newest humanitarian intervention dedicated to restoring hope, protecting dignity and promoting self-reliance among vulnerable women and children.
She noted that the initiative would focus on widows, orphans, survivors of gender-based violence, disadvantaged women and out-of-school girls through advocacy, empowerment and strategic partnerships.Representing the President of NASFAT, Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, the Vice President II, Alhaji Moroof Ajiroba, commended the leadership of the Women Affairs Department and all stakeholders involved in establishing SILWIN. He reaffirmed NASFAT’s commitment to programmes that promote social inclusion, family stability, economic empowerment and community development, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of the Society’s enduring commitment to humanitarian service.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Chief Missioner of NASFAT, Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, emphasized that Islam teaches believers not only to worship Allah but also to serve humanity through compassion and support for the vulnerable. He urged members of society to identify with the plight of widows and less privileged persons, stressing that true faith is reflected in acts of empathy, generosity and service. He further reminded participants that supporting widows and the needy is a noble act highly rewarded in Islam.
A major highlight of the event was the empowerment of scores of widows and young women through economic support packages facilitated by the Alhaja Fausat Folashade Adegeye-led National Economic Empowerment Committee.
